Hello dear readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Roundup for April 4, 2024. It’s Thursday and that means we have a big bag of new releases to check out. Some very decent tracks in the mix today, like Freedom Planet 2, The Gap, Sushi Soul Universe, and more. After going through all the new games, we look at the lists of new sales and discounts expiring for the day. You know, the usual thing. Well, that’s enough of a preamble. Let’s go!
New releases
Freedom Planet 2 ($24.99)
Planet Freedom it was very cool Sonic– inspired platform game, perhaps one of the best adventures of its type outside of official games featuring the world’s most famous hedgehog. At the time, she could not completely free herself from her origins of Sonic fan game. Planet Liberty 2 is more confidently its own thing, and I think it will please both fans of the first game and anyone who enjoys a good action platformer. We’ll be reviewing it early next week, so look forward to it.
Tengoku Fight -Strayside- ($49.99)
Here is the latest visual novel from Idea Factory and Aksys. It follows the story of Rin Enma, the adopted daughter of the ruler of the underworld. She goes on a mission to recover escaped sinners, and she brings a team of four sinners hand-picked by her father to support her. Will there be kisses? Yes. That seems certain. But WHO going to kiss? When will they kiss? How will they kiss? These are the burning questions! Questions that I may or may not answer in my review of this game when I finish it. Stay tuned.
The Gap ($19.99)
Another one of those adventure games that aims to provide a psychological thriller style experience. You are a scientist trying to cure a family illness that causes memory loss and other problems, and you will do so by delving into your own psyche and trying to sort out your consciousness. But wait, what if… what if everything isn’t as it seems? That would be something, wouldn’t it? But certainly developers would not play such a trick. Our friend Mikhail will review this game for us. Maybe he’ll shed some light on the situation.
Korean Rail Tour – LRT Uijeongbu ($29.99)
You’ve probably seen at least a few train simulations based on Japanese railway lines. Well, here’s one based on the Uijeongbu Light Rail line in Seoul, South Korea. It’s one of those that uses real images to display what you see while you drive, and if you have the special Zuiki MasCon controller designed for the Switch version of Densha de Go, you can use it here too. A very niche game, but those who like this sort of thing will surely be happy to see it.
Exvania Arcade Archives ($7.99)
Okay, we’re trying to be nice to one of Japan’s first and biggest game publishers, so no one mentions that this 1992 release is basically just a variation of Bomber. Person! Exvania East totally its own thing. Up to four players move across a single screen with various objects blocking paths and can drop explosive orbs to clear these objects and destroy other players or monsters. But be careful where you place your explosive orb, because if you trap yourself, you could get killed by your own bo… explosive orb! How fun, and also very costs!
Retro Mystery Club Vol.2: The Beppu Affair ($9.90)
With hindsight, the “Vol.1” in the title of the first game was a clear sign that a sequel was on the way. Regardless, this is another Japanese-style murder mystery adventure, this time set in the town of Beppu, Oita Prefecture. An event for bamboo artisans ends in tragedy, and it’s up to you to sort it out and find the truth. This probably goes without saying, but if you had a good time with the first one, you’ll probably want to check this one out too.
Sushi Soul Universe ($9.99)
Sushi is a very serious business at the best of times, but in this game it’s a matter of life and death. Sushi’s very existence is under threat across the multiverse, and you must eat it all for great justice. You run around 3D spaces trying to collect all the pieces of sushi, while a never-ending stream of absurd jokes unfolds around you. It’s a weird game, sure, but with a lot of charm. Cooking extraordinary.
Wild Age ($14.99)
A step-by-step action-adventure game in which a warrior attempts to recover a magical artifact. The game features a variety of elements, including a crafting system, tower defense, base building, and direct combat across more than twenty story stages. There are also a few extra modes to extend the gameplay. Something about this game is turning me off, but I can’t put my finger on it. Well, it doesn’t really matter in the end. If this sounds cool to you, feel free to investigate further.
Doll Explorer ($10.99)
This is another turn-based deck-building strategy game. Are there any roguelite elements here as well? Let me check. Um, a few. The outline of the game mechanics here will be very familiar to many players. A witch, a doll, and a demon queen head into dungeons in search of treasure. You will have to guide them through their explorations and battles, creating combos and making the most of your limited resources. It’s a relatively simple affair, and the difficulty level is not that high, but there is a certain charm to it.
Storyblocks: The King ($4.99)
A short and simple puzzle game focused on storytelling. You get a piece of the story, then have to lay down blocks to create a route to the next piece. The story will change depending on the specific way you do this, promoting replayability. It certainly seems like a good idea, but I haven’t had a chance to play it yet, so I don’t know if it delivers on that promise.
Brazil ($3.99)
A game about digging from Japan to Brazil. Or in many other countries. There are a few more secrets buried here for the adventurous and discerning player. This developer has made some quirky but entertaining games before, and I imagine this will fall into a similar basket.
Do it! Ikayaki ($3.00)
Following almost exactly in the footsteps of SAT-BOX’s other little cooking games, this one sees you trying to prepare the perfect dish. ikayaki. It’s fried squid. It’s not something I’m interested in, but a lot of people like it. Anyway, if you’re salty for losing too much Splatoonthis might give you some relief.
Nudel Label ($6.49)
A board game for up to four players locally in which you play as waiters and compete to see who can serve the most customers. Apparently anything goes, so be wary of other players bothering you. Alternatively, you can be a little stinky and play with the other players. Naughty! It doesn’t sound very sophisticated, but who knows? It’s at least fairly affordable.
Empires Shall Fall ($12.99)
It’s a fairly naked clone of Advanced Wars, but we see them so rarely these days that I imagine it will still interest some people. It’s relatively well done, and I think if you have a certain affection for Advanced Wars and don’t worry, this game doesn’t really add much, it’s worth the asking price.

I will also make extravagant gestures towards Spiritual Tea, Blue FireAnd Turnip Boy commits tax evasion as they hit new low prices. Not much in the outbox, but you might want to think about it King of the shotgun. It doesn’t seem to go on sale very often. Well, I leave these lists to you.
